Taylor Swift’s new track Look What You Made Me Do has smashed the weekly streaming record on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The vengeful hit topped the US singles chart on Tuesday with the year’s highest one-week sales. The song also broke the weekly streaming record for a song by a woman in addition to halting the record-tying 16-week reign of Despacito. Taylor’s Look What You Made Me Do is a dark dance track and the first single off the pop star’s upcoming album Reputation. It meandered from No. 77 (where it debuted) to No. 1, pushing Despacito to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week through Thursday. After its Aug. 25 release, the song sits at the top with the highest weekly streaming and sales sums for a track in 2017 and breaks the record for the most weekly streams ever for a song by a woman. Tracking service Nielsen Music said Look What You Made Me Do had the second highest number of streams ever over all other platforms, hot on the heels of the 2013 viral dance craze track Harlem Shake.
