Visual Artist, Osa Seven Tells Our History on a 13ft by 108ft Graffiti Mural

Visual artist, Osa Seven, is making waves right now over social media networks, and off the internet, for his ongoing graffiti mural at Law School Bus Stop, Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island.

The mural named “EKO TAG” comes in the midst of the approaching Lagos@50 festival celebrations. Commissioned by Lagos State Government, with the support of Lagos State Arts/Culture & Tourism, Terra Kulture and The Guardian, Osa utilizes #EKOTAG to recount stories as Lagosians, and how the city has made its people resourceful to a global audience. Additionally, the 13ft by 108ft #EKOTAG art, projects some of the exceptional history of Lagos, thereby becoming a principal graffiti landmark and tourist attraction in Lagos.

First City Monumental Bank also teamed up with the creative artist to create a historic moment with the Eko Tag Platform, curating and telling stories about Lagos monuments.

The Group Head, Corporate Affairs of FCMB, Mr. Diran Olojo commented on the involvement of the bank. Stating that it aligns with one of the core values of the financial institution as a helpful Bank committed to creating opportunities. According to him:

‘’This amplifies the premium FCMB places on the nation’s creative industry. This particular industry has the potential to be a major revenue earner for the country and contributing to its growth is a natural inclination for us…

‘’On another level, this initiative is also designed to discover, engage and empower the lovers of art and culture amongst our teeming youth populace. The art and culture enthusiasts within the youth bracket will find it easy to realise their aspirations through the platforms provided by the Lagos at 50 anniversary and Eko Tag’’.

Creative director of EKO TAG, Akinlabi Akinbulumo added by saying, ‘’this beautifully crafted work of art is quickly turning into an observable spot in the city of Lagos, as we see Osa make this historical transition before our eyes. Without uncovering the full mural, the art progress we have been able to spot so far is recounting our stories to the immense number of diverse Nigerians and multicultural nationalities that go by the road daily. With the support of Lagos State Government, and FCMB, we are bridging the gap with EKO TAG, serving as a beacon of hope to fine artists’’.
