Meet The Wizkid’s ‘Come Closer’ Video Director Oladapo ‘Daps’ Fagbenie

Wizkid is setting records with the new video for ‘Come Closer’ and the man behind it is none other than the director Daps. Daps is born Oladapo Fagbenie, a Nigerian and ‘Yaba boy’ who has been making his mark as a director. Interestingly, he was also an artiste and that was how he met UK grime star Stormzy. Daps has gone on to work with Director X as second unit director for Kendrick Lamar’s ‘King Kunta’, co-director for Iggy Azalea’s ‘Team’, Jordin Sparks’ ‘Double Tap’ and of course a number of videos for Migos including ‘Bad n Boujee’.

Daps actually also worked with Sesan for the video for ‘The Sound’ by Davido as well as ‘No Kissing Baby’ by Patoranking.

Daps is actually quite tall, 6’8” tall creative and received a scholarship to play basketball at Campbell University.
He is also the brother of British actor, O. T. Fagbenle, and video producer, Luti Fagbenle. He began his video production career in the fall of 2010 and began directing music videos in 2012. Although Daps released his own music in 2013, he has been making music since 1997.

Daps is quoted as saying in an interview: ‘I learn best from watching. Whether that’s making beats, editing, or directing… watch, ask “why”, and soak it in. The thing I learned from Sesan is you can make the most out of any situation. Keep shooting and do it with a positive mind set. From Director X, I learned some technicalities of how and what to shoot, and also how to control a set. Being on set with him allowed me to be comfortable to handle any scale project with any artist.’
