Introducing exciting new afropop talent MAYÉ with his brand new single titled ‘CATCH COLD’, which is set for release on October 13 via Nigerian-based independent record label Quville Limited. Produced by one of TurnTable Charts’ ‘2022 Producers to Watch’ godOmarr, ‘Catch Cold’ is an instantly infectious pop offering with afrobeats and dancehall sensibilities, which sees Mayé in his elements as he rails against an ex-lover that abandoned him when he was down on his luck.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the ‘Catch Cold’ single, Mayé says, “this track is about a guy throwing shade at an ex-lover who didn’t appreciate him while they were in a relationship, and broke up with him because he was broke, but now that his luck has changed for the better, he wants to throw it back in her face. It is a very catchy song and will resonate with many people, especially anyone that felt abandoned by their lover or friends, because their finances were still catching up”.
Now working on his debut EP with Quville, Mayé first burst onto the scene in 2018 with two underground demos ‘Calm Down’ and ‘Let Me Love You’, with which he began gaining massive notoriety in his hometown in Kaduna, emerging as one of the city’s best pop/R&B artists and vocal performers. Fast-forward to 2022, and Mayé is now one of the finest new artists emerging out of Lagos, the afrobeats capital of the world, and is taking his talents global, starting with ‘Catch Cold’.
Highly recommended if you like the global music sounds of Wizkid, Fireboy DML, or Omah Lay, Mayé is an artist to watch for 2023 within the global afrobeats landscape. Effortlessly weaving through a wide array of sonic landscapes, from afrobeats and highlife, to R&B and dancehall, to alternative and gospel music, Mayé transcends genre limitations and ceilings with his infectious music, which is driven by enthralling voice, captivating singing style, expert musicianship, and relatable songwriting.
