The Ghanaian prince of Dancehall – Stonebwoy returns with his very first single of the year and what a track to round off the first quarter! Teaming up with the one and only King – Beenie Man; Stonebwoy brings us some fire with his brand new video “Shuga”.
The visuals are set within the beautiful city of Kingston, Jamaica utilising the country’s
public transportation system. The two are joined by the islands locals as daily life comes to a halt for a much needed party.
Stonebwoy comments on the track: “Working with Beenie Man has been great! it’s actually been long overdue, for this track I sent him the music and then he sent his verse back. However I’ve visited Jamaica a number of times, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him and we’ve had deep conversations about how we know that Afrobeats and Dancehall/Reggae music has the same rules. There needs to be more collaborations like this and Beenie has been in that space for a very long time trying to make these happen.
There’s also that realisation that the song “Shuga” relates back to the Beenie Man track “Girls Dem Sugar” although this track does blend my style of ‘pidgin’ (Ghanaian dialect) and Beenie’s style of ‘Patois’ (Jamaican dialect) creating a beautiful masterpiece for the consumption of everybody.
“Shuga” is a great song and working with Beenie Man has been super amazing we flew to Jamaica and shot the video directed by Bling Blang. The feeling and energy for this track has been great, we are both just representing for people to become one and in these times we’re happy to be alive, to be here, now that the understanding is getting more deeper about Afrobeats and its crossover, that’s why we are merging both genres to create beautiful, beautiful sounds so I’m super excited as this is my first single for 2019!…”
