South African Music songstress, Zahara to Sue South Africa Music Awards And Somizi Over Free Bar Comment. If her tone is anything to go by, both Somizi and the South Africa Music Aawrds have a week to tender a public apology to songbird Zahara or she’s suing their them.
‘Zahara’ Mkutukana was left fuming over Somizi Mhlongo’s jokes about her at the South African Music Awards (Samas) on Saturday. The singer couldn’t attend the ceremony because she was away on a business trip. Thus, upon her arrival from Swaziland, friends told her what Somizi had said about her and she totally lost her cool. Somizi who co-hosted the awards with comedian Tumi Morake actually made jokes about everyone, including his friend Khanyi Mbau and Babes Wodumo. However, he didn’t realize he was crossing a boundary when he told audiences that there was a free bar at the after-party and that he’s sure Zahara would be there. Apparently, he was referring to her rumoured battle with the bottle. Some reports even claimed at the time that she had checked into rehab to help with her struggle with alcohol. Jokes apart, Zahara didn’t find Somizi’s comment funny. As a result, she is now threatening to sue him and the Samas for defamation of character.
