It is not news that veteran singer Sir Victor Uwaifo is not happy with Simi and Jaywon over the title of their songs ‘Joromi’ that share a title with his classic.
However in an interview with Vanguard NG, The elder singer is reported as saying: “They didn’t contact me before doing a remix of Joromi; but I’m like a father to them so I can’t begin to drag them to court, so let them make a living out of it, but at the same time it’s piracy.”
It looks like he has had a change of heart as the 77 year old singer has threatened lawsuit in a new interview with Sahara TV. He explained that he owns the right to the name ‘Joromi’ because he created it. He stated that Joromi is his original idea, contrary to the popular opinion that it was extracted from the cultural books of Edo natives. He described it as a ‘franchise’ that has been trademarked.
Sir Uwaifo stated that Simi committed a punishable offence by using the name and some of the elements of his song without seeking his permission. He said, ‘Simi is in trouble’ and went on to hint that he is planning to take legal actions against the songstress.
