Kid Cudi has checked himself into rehab.
In a letter posted on Facebook on Tuesday evening (Oct. 4), the rapper made the surprising announcement. “Its been difficult for me to find the words to what Im about to share with you because I feel ashamed,” he wrote. “Yesterday I checked myself into rehab for depression and suicidal urges.”
According to the 32-year-old rapper, he’s been battling these demons for a long time. “I am not at peace. I haven’t been since you’ve known me.”
Without treatment, he feared he may harm himself. “If I didn’t come here, I wouldve done something to myself,” he added. “I simply am a damaged human swimming in a pool of emotions everyday of my life. Theres a ragin violent storm inside of my heart at all times.”
But he’s now focused on recovery. “Im scared, im sad, I feel like I let a lot of people down and again, Im sorry. Its time I fix me. Im nervous but ima get through this.”
He also promised his fans that he would release his new album Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin, which was delayed from its Sept. 30 date. “The album is still on the way. Promise. I wanted to square away all the business before I got here so I could focus on my recovery.”
He hopes to be done with rehab in time for his performance at ComplexCon on Nov. 5.
In closing, Cudi thanked his supporters. “Love and light to everyone who has love for me and I am sorry if I let anyone down. I really am sorry,” he said. “Ill be back, stronger, better. Reborn. I feel like shit, I feel so ashamed. Im sorry.”
Last month, Cudi made headlines after lashing out at Drake and Kanye West. “These ni**as dont give a fuck about me,” he tweeted. After firing back, Kanye later returned with an olive branch.
“I just wanna take this time out to say Kid Cudi is my brother and I hope he’s doing well,” the G.O.O.D. Music mogul said during his “Saint Pablo Tour.” “He’s the most influential artist of the past 10 years.”
Cudi’s peers including Bow Wow, Karrueche, and Monica have since taken to social media to voice their support.
