During her cover interview for the April issue of InStyle, the “Level Up” singer Ciara revealed how she and her husband’s premarital sex life, explaining that it was non-existent. Citing religious reasons, Ciara said she and Russell abstained from premarital sex during their courtship, a challenge she said “took a lot of prayer.”
“It was hard. I can’t lie,” she added.
The mom-of-two previously opened up about their decision to wait for marriage to have sex, telling Cosmo South Africa in January 2017 they were focused on building a friendship first. “I really believe that when you focus on a friendship, you have the opportunity to build a strong foundation for a relationship,” she explained. “Once you know you’re really great friends and you’re what we call ‘equally yoked,’ where you share the same values or the same outlook on life, it kind of sets the tone… You shouldn’t feel like you have to give your body away to get someone to like you.”
“I have to give credit to my husband for sharing those views,” she continued. “It’s awesome how it all worked out.”
