HOMECOMING 2019 reached its conclusion last Sunday, leaving a legacy over four days of music, fashion, culture, art, and sport in Lagos, Nigeria. The festival – a celebration of Africa’s young, creative generation – once again brought some of Africa’s – and the world’s – most exciting talent to the city to partake in fashion pop-ups, design workshops, a programme of panel talks, sporting competitions, and live performances.
HOMECOMING events over Easter weekend included:
HOMECOMING POP-UP – a 3-day retail pop up featuring global and local fashion and streetwear brands.
NIKE JERSEY CUSTOMISATION WORKSHOPS – a series of workshops where guests learnt how to customise football jerseys using print techniques led by Nike technicians.
PANEL TALKS – a series of panel discussions focused on the creative sector, held at XII Glover
SKATE JAM – co-hosted by WAFFLESNCREAM, Nigeria’s first skate shop
ART PROGRAMME – Day 1 of a curated tour through Lagos’ essential art galleries and happenings.
LIVE SHOW – a live music show at Harbour Point, featuring a line up of local and international artists
HOMECOMING LIVE MUSIC SHOW
On Sunday night, international and Nigerian stars converged on Harbour Point, Lagos, to perform at the hugely anticipated HOMECOMING 2019 LIVE MUSIC SHOW. Some of the world’s hottest musical artists took the stage in a back-to-back ‘playlist’ of songs that took the festival to new heights.
Artists who performed included: DJ OBI — DRB — FIREBOY DML — NAIRA MARLEY — NINIOLA — ODUNSI — POCO LEE — PRETTYBOY D-O — REMA — RUNTOWN — SANTI — SHO MADJOZI — SIMI — SKEPTA — STARBOY TERRI — TEMS — TENI THE ENTERTAINER — WIZKID
Further surprise appearances were made on the night by crowd favourites MOONCHILD and LA MEME GANG.
Also performing on stage were three young artists, winners of HOMECOMING’s #HomecomingNewArtist contest which was held earlier this week. Chosen from hundreds of applicants to respond to HOMECOMING’s contest on Instagram, the singer DINI, rapper PHLOW, and saxophonist KISHI DAVID performed alongside some of the biggest names in the industry; a representation of HOMECOMING’s investment in youth culture and the potential of Nigeria’s incredible creative talent.

PANEL TALKS – The final panel in a series held at XII Glover saw model and social media star JORDYN WOODS joins GRACE LADOJA in conversation about finding the confidence to be creative.
NIKE JERSEY CUSTOMISATION WORKSHOPS – Day 3 in a series of workshops held at XII Glover in partnership with NIKE saw NIKE technicians show guests how to customise one-of-one football jerseys.
HOMECOMING POP-UP – Day 3 of a 3-day retail pop up featured local and global fashion and streetwear brands. Brands who participated included Alyx — Ambush — Awake NY — Greatness — Kenneth Ize — MAINS — Motherlan — Mowalola — Nike — Stüssy — Patta — Places+Faces — No Vacancy Inn — Vivendi — Wafflesncream.
Also appearing at the pop-up on Sunday was the winning designer from HOMECOMING’s #HomecomingNewDesigner contest (held earlier this week). Young streetwear designer DIMEJI EZEKIEL was chosen from hundreds of applicants, with his graphic-led designs featured at the Pop-Up alongside some of the world’s most essential brands.
ART TOUR – Day 3 of a curated tour through Lagos’ essential art galleries and happenings. Stops of note on Sunday included the cutting edge Rele Gallery, and a visit to the studio of Nigerian contemporary artist Nengi Omoku.
