The awards season continued on Thursday with the return of the iHeartRadio Music Awards. The ceremony was broadcast live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, and was hosted by Usher. The music awards show returned with a new category — for the first time, there were six contenders up for TikTok Bop of the Year, which was awarded based on fan votes. Last year’s broadcast was canceled due to the pandemic; however, the music awards show returned with a different category — for the first time, there were six contenders up for TikTok Bop of the Year, which was awarded based on fan votes.

With eight nominations, The Weeknd led the iHeartRadio nominees and took home three awards, including Song of the Year and Male Artist of the Year, tying BTS for the most awards of the night. According to Vulture.com, he was closely followed by Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Rich, who each received seven nominations.

The Weeknd and Ariana Grande debuted their “Save Your Tears” remix in front of a real-life, indoor, masked audience! Silk Sonic, Dan + Shay, and Doja Cat were among the performers on the show (featuring aliens).

Demi Lovato, Brandi Carlie, and H.E.R. also performed a musical tribute to Elton John, who was honored with the iHeartRadio Icon Award this year.
