Cassper Nyovest bagged his first award of 2018 at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival.

The SA rapper, who had a stellar 2017 with the success of his third album Thuto and filling up FNB stadium, walked away with the Best Hip Hop award at the Soundcity MVP Awards held in Nigeria.

The event saw some of the biggest acts in Africa all gathered together under one roof.

Winners for the Soundcity MVP Awards are determined by votes and an in-house committee of the major stakeholders across the continent.

Newcomers Distruction Boyz, who made major waves with the success of their first album, also walked away with their first-ever award, winning the category for Best Group/Duo.

Incidentally, it was also the first Gqom album to hit SA.
