Why Wizkid Claimed the “Digital Artiste Of The Year” at the #SoundcityMVP Awards Festival

Ayo Balogun popularly known as Wizkid became the “Digital Artiste Of The Year” at the Soundcity MVP 2017. Wizkid contested this category with the likes of; Davido, Cassper Nyovest, Shatta Wale, AKA, Yemi Alade and Vanessa Mdee. He thanked organizers of the Festival via Twitter as he was conspicuously not at the show but it was for a good reason. According to Mutay who received the trophy, he was performing ‘daddy duties’ in the UK. Videos soon surfaced of him performing at YCee’s Juice Concert in London. The award was presented by VJ Adams and Pearl.

He earned a spot at number 57 on the top most streamed artists on the Spotify list in 2017. Wizkid stood at number 59 on the log with 1, 379, 041, 180 streams. While on YouTube, his music video titled “Come Closer” feat. Drake gained over 51M views in just 8 months.

Recently, just last year Wizkid’s name found it’s way into the Guinness Book of Records 2018. This feat was achieved following his contributions to Drake’s Billboard number 1 hit ‘One Dance’. His name joined the Guinness Book of Records after ‘One Dance’ became the most streamed song on Spotify. Wizkid earned a higher spot than top American acts like Pharrell Williams, Big Sean & Pitbull etc.

According to video director, Adasa Cookey, he has raked in 72 million naira from the streaming of his hit videos, Come Closer and My love. The said figures comes from music streaming platform, Spotify where the videos have been watched over 55 million times combined.
