Four Female Artistes Who Have Rocked 2017 Hard | See The MVP List

Dec 19, 2017 |

A Soundcity MVP special.

We cannot draw the year close without mentioning the women who ideally made it special with their unique and striving spirit of standing high in a society that proves too difficult for the female to stand tall especially in the Nigeria music Industry. Not only are they go-getters but also, inspiring for the younger artist who may not have found their footing yet in the industry and are looking up to these role models of achievement. The phrase; ‘hard work pays’ is the definition of these music queens who have not allowed things to be handed to them but have rather gone out to grab it without no regret or apology. These women reminds one of the Maya Angelou of women Literature who once said;

‘I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass’

The Oprah Winfrey of the Television and talk show network and the Beyonce of America and more fab women who have broken grounds upon a strident male dominated world.

With a start off from Tiwa Savage, the heavyweight songstress whose tremendous input in 2017 has made her set her mark in the list of well deserving artist of the year alongside the male artist in the struggling world of a female in the music scene has given us reason to look out for more from her in 2018. Her album, ‘Sugarcane’ came with more strings of success to her already untamed niche in the industry, dropping layer upon layers of sky rocking milestone with her hit songs ‘All Over’ which has over twelve (12) million views on youtube and her addictive partying swinging ‘Malo’ which saw artistic performances from Wizkid and a beat decoration from Spellz has put fans on a high party mood each time the song blaze out of their speakers. Tiwa Savage definitely got us hooked in her delivery of songs, on-stage performances and her daily spins of Instagram photos of beautiful showcase of the New-York-type Fashion with her blend of barbie faced make-ups.

Mama Africa in her own world of Afro compartment gives us a wave from her strong and unflinching vibrant personality that captivates on sight. The year so far has been eventful for her with high youtube views from her light bubbling hit song ‘Johnny’ which garnered a whooping 82,708,059 views, high definitive collaborations from A-Listers like Falz on ‘Single & Searching’, Waje, Mafikizolo and mind-blowing deals both local and International which has seen her smiling to the bank. The King of Queens herself has become the African woman’s peep into the world of creative material patterned style. Her latest album, ‘Black Magic’ has seen her bowl out of 2017 on a high note and great expectations from her devoted fans will no doubt continue to cross heights.

Seyi Shay’ sense of fashion cannot be overemphasized with many trending online daring fashion try-outs which crowns the sleek looking diva the runway queen. Just like her contemporaries she has also made huge contributions in the African music scene which divides her between the fashionista and the artist. ‘Yolo Yolo’ coloured the year for her, with a long standing top 10 spot in music countdowns and her latest single ‘Bia’ shows more promising future for slimmed trimmed singer.

Singing bird and story-teller, Simi has thus far proven in all ramification that everything doesn’t have to be high tempo; sometimes we need it low and soft-tuned with a relaxing pitch while sometimes it can be an upbeat. With the launch of her album ‘Simisola’, Simi entered into another sphere in her career which makes her soothing voice a refreshing tune for the vast genres of music. 2017 has been a very busy year for her with a sold-out concert, highly rated sophomore album and line ups of shows which has kept her on feet year round. Her simplicity with an added calm looking features can not be taken for granted as she depicts fire and a raving sense of sophistication which embellishes her personality. Simi has ‘taken the roads not taken’ in the challenging industry of the era of ‘pon pon’ sound and has on a congratulatory note done well.
